Super Sundays: Brighton Half Marathon and The Breakfast Club, Battersea Rise

"I cracked my lids to see what had promised to make any Sunday meal proud." (Maya Angelou, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings)
I have to apologise for not putting a recipe or review up last weekend; I shouldn't make excuses, but I had a busier (and more tiring) weekend than usual as I ran the Brighton Half Marathon! After months (well, the 2 months post-Christmas) of training, the day came and off we all went, pounding the earth. Luckily, the weather held out and it was a pretty beautiful day to run along the coast- the sun bounced off the waves and lit up the cliffs which was a fantastic distraction. I managed to complete the half marathon in 2hrs1min which I was, in equal measure, really happy with- it was a PB for me- and frustrated with because it was so close to sub 2 hours. I also managed to smash my fundraising total for Chestnut Tree House Children's Hospice, raising double my what I was aiming for, which was probably the best part of the whole thing!
Anyway, any runner will tell you, it's important to keep yourself hydrated and pack yourself full of nutrients after a run, but I also think you should always give yourself something you really want after completing such a considerable distance! Once I was back in London, I wanted decided to kill two birds with one stone, and I visited The Breakfast Club in Clapham. This beautifully presented, quirky cafe serves is a really cool place to chill out: with funky tiled floors, patterned wallpaper and gloriously random installations, such as row retro washing machines, the cafe offers an unconventional but trendy setting for the hipster within. Untimately, I am so fond of this place because it serves breakfast all day. The menu ranges from pancakes, to fry ups, to fruit salad, and you just have to look the queue outside to see that I am not the only person who sometimes wants breakfast at tea time!
I visited on Sunday with a few friends and I ordered the Veggie All American. I've had my share of disappointing veggie fry ups, but The Breakfast Club's offering was really good, comprising of eggs, mushrooms, a homemade veggie sausage and fried potatoes, as well as a stack of pancakes on the same- all in all very tasty, and maybe especially so because I tucked into it at around 4 in the afternoon! I was more excited though by the pitcher of Mango Go which we shared- the iced mixture of mango, strawberry and orange was really juicy, refreshing and matched my nails- perfection!
